A
Conversation with Blaire Minter
How has playing Atlanta Junior Golf helped your game?
It has been
fantastic. It has provided me with so many playing
opportunities. I have been playing for about eight years,
and I have met so many life-long friends. It has been a
great experience from when I began playing and learning the
rules with Merilee [Giddings] and Roh [Wezner] to playing in
18-hole events.
How much do you
practice?
I still do a lot of chipping and putting - work on my
short game. I'll play in some Southeastern Junior Golf Tour
events to experience playing in multi-day events during the
summer. I have only one more event before I leave for
Western Carolina University.
What was it like winning
the Atlanta Junior Golf Grand Championship?
It was great. I felt really good about the tournament
and the golf course was in great shape. I played eight years
in the program, and I really thought this was the year for
me to try to win the Grand Championship. I was actually
going to work events this summer as a staff member, but my
mom mentioned I could play one more year before going off to
college, so I decided to play in some of the events. I love
Atlanta Junior Golf. I have met some terrific friends, and
it has a special place in my heart.
As you prepare to play
college golf, are you excited?
I'm so excited about going to college. I am counting
down the hours. At the end of my junior year, Coach [Steve]
Lott contacted me about playing at Western Carolina. I
didn't know much about the program, but I really liked the
area - it is very pretty. The team plays some great golf
courses, like Country Club at Sapphire Valley (Cashiers,
N.C.) and the Highlands Country Club (Highlands, N.C.), so
I'm excited about playing those courses. I think it will be
a great experience, and I hope to have an opportunity to
play right away.
